Marlvin, a bubbly, affable and endlessly knowledgeable hails from Zimbabwe, one of South Africa’s neighbouring country. He is part of a wave of Zimbabweans who left their economically-hit homeland for a better life in South Africa, Cape Town. he then got a restaurant job, he developed an interest in the intricacies of wine, from then his passion started growing. He is a Group Sommelier for The Liz McGrath Collection, after 8 years as Head Sommelier at The Cape Grace Hotel.

Marlvin graduated with a Cape Wine Academy Diploma in 2013 and in 2015 he then gained his Wine and Spirits Education trust Level 3 (WSET) qualification alongside with his other qualifications he obtained back in his homeland. He is en route to becoming a Cape Wine Master, has judged at a string of national competitions and he flattened the field at the Cape Town leg of SA wine tasting championships in 2015. Lastly but certainly not least he took part in wine Blind Tasting Championships – Olympics of the wine world as part of the first ever Zimbabwe team to complete alongside his Zimbabwean sommeliers team members.
Marlvin is featured in the new documentary Blind Ambition of how four Zimbabwean refugees conquered insurmountable odds to become South Africa’s top sommeliers.
